Last year’s Academy Awards was a ceremony without a host, and it will happen again at the 2020 Oscars.

ABC Entertainment has made a decision that the 2020 Academy Awards will go hostless once again this year, after Kevin Hart’s controversial departure as host from last year’s AA, confirmed officially by ABC President Karey Burke: “Let me confirm it now, together with the Academy, that there will be no traditional host this year.”

On the contrary, the show saw an increase in viewership of a massive 11.5%. “It was so entertaining. It was filled with surprises. It was tight and I think you saw the results of that with the ratings being up with double digits,” she added, along with her remark that without the need to allocate time for a host’s monologue and jokes and banter between nominations, the show can focus better on the films and actors themselves.

This does not include the year 2021, as the Academy is looking into finding a new host for the next year’s awards. The 2020 Academy Awards will air February 9, with nominations announced on January 13.
